I love cross country travel. Its much more challenging, but a unique experience. It takes skills in understanding terrain and route finding. You are contantly making your route based on what you see. You cannot rely on a preplanned idea, as it will change once you see it. Trails are great for making distance, and they make it easy, which is also great.

What are your measurements and did you get the regular sized bag? Have you tried taking it to zero in just baselayers (like what is used to do the temp ratings?) Also, how big is your head? I've got a small head, so the hood size is probably not an issue for me, but I wanted my guy friends to get these, but some of them have large heads and I may need to just keep looking for an alternative for them unless they have extra height in the bag and can make up for it that way somehow. The 2021 bags are on sale now at affordable prices. They are just slightly heavier than the 2022 but you save like 100. I'm a petite female and would really rather spend my money on something that fits me better, but then again...these are light and on sale right now. That snagging zipper issue could probably be easily dealt with by using a special kind of tape made to stiffen the fabric under the zipper like Nemo bags have. They probably heat bond it before they fill it with down. It's like zipper guard tape or something, but you could use tenacious tape to do the same thing, or you could have a seamstress sew some webbing or..there's all kinds of things you could do. I think the weight of strips of tape would 100 percent be worth the weight penalty on a UL bag because the fabrics are so thin, and also, can you imagine jamming your zipper when you're 100 miles into the wilderness and having to choose between ripping the fabric and maybe breaking the zipper anyway or trying to make it work with a gap in the bag? Or having to get out of the bag quickly for some reason and jamming it. But then again, I'm just a beginner and maybe those kinds of things don't happen in real life if you know certain tricks.

Respect, you did a great job. Thank you so much for sharing under very difficult weather conditions. I can‘t understand why NEMO doesn‘t provide the possibility in rainy conditions to build up the tent only with the rainfly and the footprint. The new footprint of my dragonfly bikepack has no loops which could so easily connect with the poles and the rainfly. The older footprint of the MSR tent has such loops, but the new ones don‘t. I will write to NEMO about this issue which is in my opinion very important to have the option to build up the tent without the inner tent. Later the inner tent could be fixed much more easily from the inside as you did or it could remain dry in the backpack until the rain is gone.

That's what I'm talking about. I find the whole "ultra light concept" ridiculous, because strong hiker=more and weak hiker=less weight capability. It's all relative. You should do what you can do. Unless each hiker is trying to go for maximum distance. Hiking is a defined point to point distance activity(campsite to campsite) Why does a strong young hiker need to carry the same light weight pack as a lesser hiker. It's like big olympic weight lifter working out with 5 lbs dumbells. Obviously, on this trip your pack is not integrated, but you guys know what I mean. The mindset of strong hikers=more load for defined distance is just common sense.

What kind of training did you to to prepare? I currently have a summit planned for Rainier in may 2024 and I ruck about 4 times a week with a 55-60 pound pack usually trying to get 2,000-4,000 vert gain on each via treadmill or appalchians. Also do incline sprint work and strength training 4 times a week. So I’m hustling hard but was interested what you did to prepare. I’m about 6 foot and 195 pounds currently.
